The D7000 has a DX-format CMOS image sensor that offers 16.2 million effective pixels. To record uncompressed images, the sensor features a 14-bit A/D conversion for RAW images (12-bit selectable). For low-light photography, the camera has a sensitivity range from ISO 100 to 6400, which can further be raised up to ISO 25600-equivalent. You can record Full HD movie clips in 1920 x 1080 pixels resolution at 24 frames per second.

The built-in flash of the D7000 has a guide number of 12 metre (at ISO 100). There is a large 3 inch LCD with VGA resolution that displays high quality pictures for clear reference.
